In some ways, I think that the T’ville Triple Crown is my favorite event of the season. It has a variety of disciplines that everyone competes in. Its held at my original home spot – the Farmington River, and you never know what is going to happen weather wise or river level wise so it keeps it very interesting. I am always super impressed with the army of volunteers that come out to make the event possible and with the really excellent organizing that goes into this event. There is also a ton of local support from the community who come out to support all the paddlers. I really can’t say enough good things about it.
Back in 2001, there was the last official rodeo at T’Ville, but I was really excited when Jamie McEwan came up with the idea of the triple crown two years ago – downriver, slalom and freestyle all in one event – its very cool- and you have to do it two days in a row. It is a true test of skill and endurance. Each year its grown in size and this year was the biggest event so far. This year we had the biggest women’s class ever and the biggest men’s class as well as C-1 and OC-1. Lots of locals showed up as well as paddlers from all over the country. We had chilly but sunny weather and the levels were really good for all the events. A Big huge thanks to Andy Kulberg for organizing the event and everyone else who helped out. It was really great. Hope to see you back there next year!
