As the JK educational guy I get the opportunity to work with a bunch of great organizations that get people kayaking. It does not get any better than that. Officer Matthew A. Cyr checked in with this update and video.

Dare To Adventure is a cooperative effort between the Windham Police Department and Windham Middle School to allow selected seventh and eighth grade students to participate in an alternative education program that seeks to impact student’s outlook both personally and intellectually. DTA attempts to have an impact on students at a time during a stage of adolescence when social challenges become prevalent and they encounter negative risk situations more frequently.
Experiential or adventure based education is one approach to teaching students healthy risk taking, resiliency, and sound decision making skills. Windham Dare To Adventure operates upon the belief that the successful acquisition of these skills will protect or insulate students against substance abuse, prepare students to benefit more successfully from the school setting and educational environment, and help form the competence needed to confront life’s challenges. The PEP Grant afforded us white water kayaking equipment to be used as one means to accomplish these goals. The acquisition of the Jackson Kayaks has expanded our ability for more easily fit a greater range in size of student and has helped us put more kids on the water than ever before! They are easy to fit and very forgiving which greater aids us in introducing kids to white water kayaking.
