A few days ago I had the pleasure of heading out to the Clackamas River near Portland, OR. Locals told me that the water level was good for “long boat surfing”, so with that being said I grabbed the 2014 Jackson Zen 75.
The section of the Clackamas I was on had some fun class 3 rapids, but I didn’t find much in the way of good surf. As the day continued on I was becoming a bit disappointed because I had hoped to really try out the Zen’s surfing ability, however all those negative feelings left when we arrived at the last rapid of the section and I noticed a perfect glassy wave at the top.
The Zen is a surfing machine! The planning hull makes the boat feel really loose and easy to move on the wave and the edges allow for awesome carving on the face of the wave. I must have spent close to an hour goofing around on the wave like a kid at a playground.
The video below is a small part of a long surf session.
