This winter has been a brutal one, with cold having a firm grip on most of the country and ice-lock on rivers from coast to coast. After a recent move from Vermont to Tennessee, I’m not missing the snow, but I am missing my friends, the rivers, and missing the anticipation that usually happens in April on a heavy snow year as it’s only a matter of time before the ice lifts, and rivers run free again.

One of Vermont’s whitewater gems and some of my favorite whitewater in the state is the North Branch of Winooski. It doesn’t run often, but the Spring melt is usually a good bet for a few weeks of awesome slots, slides, boofs, waterfalls and smiles with friends through some of Vermont’s best Green Mountains.

So, with the 2014 thaw about to happen, here’s some pics and a GoPro Studio edit of a rare summer run down Vermont’s North Branch of the Winooski in the Jackson Kayak Karma. Friends in Vermont, do a few extra laps for me 🙂
