IFA Kayak Championship was held in Grand Isle, Louisiana in October of 2018.  It’s a very competitive tournament series with anglers representing over 6 states all along the gulf coast and Atlantic.  I was using my Jackson Coosa FD and didn’t get to prefish at all for the championship. I still had a solid game plan since I knew the area because I live within 2 hours of the championship.  After day one of the two day tournament I had a solid score. This tournament is a catch, photo, release format of your longest speckled trout and longest redfish.  I was sitting in 4th place out of over 38 anglers after day one.  Things were looking up. I had one issue for day two. I had to be back in New Orleans early that afternoon so I had to stop fishing 3 hours earlier than the rest of the field which put me at a big disadvantage. The fishing Gods weren’t on my side for day 2 and I couldn’t replicate my score from day 1. I still finished well and in 8th place in the overall standings which is still impressive with the names in the field fishing it.  I was also the highest finisher in a Jackson Kayak for the tournament. Included are pics of my top four fish I scored plus a bonus bull redfish that another angler took for me.

Tight lines!
