Fishing in 2019 often seems like something that George Orwell would have written about. An experience where one ventures out into nature for solitude but morphs into a wave of data and frequencies that track every moment for all to see. It’s a self-inflicted fate, given birth by social media and corporate marketing. It’s not something I could have foreseen as a youngster, running the banks of creeks for catfish and bass, but I’ll embrace it. The more we bring our precious rivers and lakes into the collective consciousness, the more we can do to protect them. If we sell a few t-shirts and kayaks while we’re at it, so be it.
