Jackson Kayak Antix 2.0 surfing and play! by JK Team | Sep 12, 2021 | Antix, jacksonkayak.com, JAdventures Main Banner, Playboating, Whitewater, Whitewater Feature, WW Disciplines | 2 comments Jackson Kayak Antix 2.0 surfing and play! Submitted by Adam Swett I am still loving this Antix 2.0 and recently reasserted that in a evening paddle on the French Broad section 9 with a couple paddlers that knew the level really well and a trip to Columbus, Ga. to the Rush South whitewater park. I am way too big for the small Antix 2.0 but paddle it anyway and really enjoy the boats play ability and river running. I originally took all the foam out but now have almost all of it back in. It is too small as I am 200lbs +but I think it’s great. I have a medium also and am way into that unless paddling Class 5 then I really need to be in a creek boat. I can get down harder stuff in the Antix 2.0 but have way more fun and conserve more energy in the Nirvana. The Rush South whitewater park is such a fun place to go boating and by the looks of it many, many people are enjoying it also. It is easily the best urban whitewater I’ve been to and I have only just begun to paddle there. I have been there twice and both times the release was 3 units which I think is around 9000cfs. I really like the big foamy wave right off the island but still am working on figuring it out. I get thrashed a lot but I recently brought the medium Antix 2.0 to the wave and very much enjoying throwing the big boat around when possible and surfing back and forth trying to develop control on the wave. I have had my 2016 Rockstar there and will bring it again but I won’t be able to leave the Antix at home. That’s the thing about the Antix 2.0 or even the first Antix is I end up in it all the time and don’t want to paddle anything else. I don’t believe in one boat one destiny but if I did the Antix is all I would paddle. Like I said above in surfs I am looking for control and cut back ability and if the timing is right the potential to blunt, Felix, or flashback. I think this boat shreds and can’t wait to get it back on a wave! Check out this video of a sweet level on the French Broad river section 9 at about 4500cfs. 2 Comments dan on September 12, 2021 at 11:49 am I have an original antix and a 2.0 in medium. I love the way the 2.0 plays but I seem to get flipped unexpectedly more often. Now I’m getting nervous about taking the 2.0 on harder stuff. Any thoughts? Reply Adam Swett on September 13, 2021 at 12:18 pm I also had the original Antix medium and am around 205Lbs but it is my go kayak for everything. Almost. I now have a medium 2.0. I took my 2.0 down some harder stuff recently and did fine, which is to say I did get flipped somewhat often but getting knocked upside down does happen in harder whitewater. I will be taking the 2.0 down that same river again. I have also taken the 2.0 down harder rivers and next time want to take my Nirvana to be in the creek boat mode. High and dry! I move my seat around in the 2.0 when I want more or less stern action. I just ran the Upper Gauley and had the seat in the middle spot but if I was on the Lower Gauley maybe I’d go all the way back! If you feel weird about taking a half slice down something, trust your instincts. Take a creek boat or something bigger. Don’t feel pressured, all kinds of time to paddle. When your in your 2.0 again try really hard moves in really easy whitewater and safe spots. Squirt the stern a lot. Push yourself to progress safely. Try squirting the stern against the grain. Try the seat all the way back. Take the 2.0 to a good play hole like NOC and try to throw it around in the hole and get knocked over and develop even better edge awareness. Try jet ferries paddling backwards. Try squirting the stern really high with no paddle stroke. Try hand paddling the 2.0 in really safe spots. When the 2.0 first came out I got one and wondered if it would be just as stable and for me it was but everyone is different and does things differently and has different experiences with different model kayaks but obviously safety is paramount and we all need to get to the takeout safe and having a ton of fun! Good luck in your paddling and I think the key here is time in your boat! Reply Submit a Comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
