Fail

Fail is a game that I never win. Fail is a game invented by my little sister, Brook Hess (an amazing kayaker and coach), and Peyton (my best friend who is learning to kayak). These ladies are masters at it.

Here’s how you play:

  1. Wet exit
  2. TRY to stand on top of your kayak and hold it for 10 sec.(DO NOT flip your kayak over after wet exiting!! Leave your kayak the way it is after you wet exit)
  3. Then you have to flip your boat right side up and get in it full of water and paddle it to shore ( I never make it this far).
  4. Whoever gets it first wins the game. Seems simple, trust me it isn’t as easy as it sounds.

If you have no interest in playing, it is also tons of fun to spectate! Believe it or not it is very entertaining to watch someone climb on top of their boat and try to stand up then fail and fall into the water. You will surely get a laugh out of it.

Here are a few tips and tricks to be successful, unlike me. Use a Jackson Kayak because they are the BEST! Make sure there are no rocks or logs nearby in the water. It would not end well landing on a rock or log. You could get cut or bruised. One last thing, balance in the middle of the boat, it is the most sturdy there.
Fail is a great game to play with beginner paddlers, who are scared of the water. Fail makes the day on the river more enjoyable. When you paddle with beginner paddlers you want to make the day on the river fun, so play games. It is all about having fun and enjoying the river. Fail is just another way to enjoy kayaking, when you aren’t kayaking.
