Cleaning Up For a Better Tomorrow:

Our Chattahoochee Riverside cleanup turned out to be a fantastic treasure hunt for all involved. A win, win for both the RushSouth Whitewater Park environment and our local community.

The Southeastern Winter season has been a wet one, with the river climbing to 31.5 feet and running at a high of 57,000 cubic feet per second. This found kayaking levels at a premium, but also increased the amount of trash alongside our shores.

On Saturday, February 29, our family hosted a riverside trash cleanup which brought together kayakers, rafters, and lovers of our Riverwalk. The purpose was to create a safer and cleaner environment, which did occur, in addition to newly gained friends as we fellowshipped and laughed together for two hours. With the sun beaming down to create the perfect atmosphere, we found an old umbrella, tires, potted fake plants, shoes, broken nurf gun, stuffed animals, jewelry, tons of styrofoam, plastic containers, and even a folding table. To add a twist of additional spunk to the clean-up, we gave away swag for the most unique find, biggest piece of trash, and the silliest object.

Anyone Can Make A Difference, Small OR Big:

We believe that a cleaner earth starts with one less piece of litter. Be encouraged to also get outside and grab the pieces of trash you see when enjoying the great outdoors. Whether it be a river, court, field, trails, or playground, by yourself, or with a group of friends. Our crew took a few hours out of a normal Saturday and gathered with a community of people that took to the challenge of making a difference. The harm of trash along the shores of our rivers, negatively impacts habitats, transports chemical pollutants, is destructive to aquatic life, and also interferes with the enjoyment of a clean environment for humans. A simple act of kindness to our Earth can turn around our heavily polluted waterways, one clean-up at a time.

We would like to thank Whitewater Express for the shuttle, garbage bags, and golf cart trash collection. This event would not have been as much of a success without your help and support. We also want to show our appreciation to Jackson Kayak and NRS for the challenge of keeping our playgrounds clean, and the swag that we were able to give away. Your company’s endless generosity and encouragement to get outdoors, provides so many with the opportunity to turn moments into memorable adventures.
