My river bro, Carl, and I share nearly same day birthdays. Carl’s birthday is Oct 11th and mine is Oct 12th. Each year I like to declare Birthday Boating weekend and we try to make it a point to get together and celebrate our bdays on the river.

Sullivan Falls

Our river picks for bday boating weekend vary year to year depending on how much time we have and if/where there is water. Our nearish rivers were all low this fall. We decided to head North anyway for some lower level Wolf River fun in Northern Wisconsin. This time, we decided to make it a half slice weekend as well! Myself, paddling partner, Marty, in our new Antix 2.0s and OG stern squirt master of our group, Carl, squeezing himself into Martys dagger boat for the trip. Carl’s cousin Dewayne also made it out for a bit of river fun.

When its raining acorns…we are shready!

Our campsite, just east of the Wolf River, was a fall wonderland of gold. The camp host even delivered firewood and ice to us! We made 3 laps down section 3 and one full day run down section 4. It had been a while since I’ve paddled the Wolf. Carl showed us all the best spots for attempting to further our stern squirt skills. My favorite spots on this trip were eddy stern squirts at Boyscout Rapid, surfing at Gilmores Mistake, and launching/bouncing myself at lunch spot.

Bella the Border Collie

It was a gorgeous fun-filled long weekend with my favorite river peeps. Mr Safe T and Rip Curl even made appearances. Lots of stern squirt practice and getting better acquainted with my Antix 2.0. My dog did not puke in the middle of night in our van this time (win!). And only one minor mtn bike mishap of busting my derailer at the farthest point from the vehicle and having to stride ride it back. Other than the fantastic company and fun whitewater the best part was that is Rained On My Birthday! That is the best!
