The greatest run you’ve never heard of; Upper Middle Kaweah

Though you have probably heard of Upper Cherry, Middle Kings, West Cherry, there is one run you have probably not heard of. Just upstream of the short Hospital Rock section of the Kaweah, is a section that despite being one of my favorite runs in the world, is fairly unknown. The Upper Middle Kaweah, or also known as the Panther Creek section. You hike a fairly straightforward 4 miles up the run, and once that hike is over it’s nothing but sick rapids the entire way down to the Hospital Rock section. There are a few must run rapids that might turn some people away. But in the end it is truly one of the best sections in California if not the world, and is one of my favorite days of kayaking there is.
