NEW MOVE: the Jedi Flip Unveiled! by Will Richardson | May 26, 2006 | Whitewater | 0 comments By Stephen Wright. Learn more about Stephen. May 4, 2006 Photos It’s been a year and a half since Dane and I invented this move…at the same time…in different spots on the Gauley…without discussing it first! The Jedi Flip is the most challenging hole move that I’ve ever tried. At this point, I’ve only stuck 5 or 6 of them and had lots of fun falling on my head trying them repeatedly. To get the Jedi Flip, you’ll need to be able to Back Loop and Space Godzilla. You’ll also need a good looping hole and determination to succeed :). So far the features that seem to be best for the Jedi Flip are holes that give-up big air for loops, but don’t flip you very hard (like you go way up and fall on your face trying loops): Hungry Mother on the Gauley, Kaituna in NZ, and Lawson Colorado. Here’s the goods: It’s basically and over-rotated space-godzilla that lands into a back loop. Plug your bow like a loop -Start twisting to one side as the boat rises like you would for a space godzilla As it rises and peaks, push on the back face of your paddle to stop the twist, line the boat up (in the air) to backwards, and roll it to flat. The hardest part is lining it up straight as you fall from the sky onto your stern. You’ll land on-edge or not-so-straight a lot and fall on your head. Once the stern engages, crunch to let the bow rise. Reach back with both blades as the boat goes upside-down and use the paddle to crunch to bow under you. Sit up as the back loop finishes. Smile at your friends in the eddy, who have just witnessed the greatest display of Jedi-mind-control and impossible gymnastics they’ve ever seen! Hopefully the photos will help you figure-out what’s supposed to happen. This was shot at the Lawson, CO hole. This place rocks! I’ve been working lots of moves here. Jen’s been learning to loop in her 2 Fun. She’ll try-out a Star today. Enjoy! Jedi Master Stephen Wright Submit a Comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
