The Roaring Rapids section of the Peshtigo is one of my favorite Wisconsin rivers. This section is approximately 5 miles in length with 6 named rapids. In between the rapids are fun boulder gardens. There are tons of fun lines and eddies to pick your way through the run.

The previous spring, I paddled the Peshtigo at record flows, 50 inches, in the Gnarvana. The Gnarvana excelled at punching the large holes and kept me on line. I then paddled the Gnarvana again at 18 inches (a fun average flow). While I did still enjoy paddling the kayak, it was just a little too much boat for my normal paddling style at average water levels. Which consists of picking apart the rapids, catching micro eddies, and running multiple laps all day long.

So when the Flow came out, I was really excited to try this boat. It looked like a great fit for my goals and style. Wisconsin finally got some rain and I had the opportunity to try out my new Flow on the Peshtigo! The level was 18 inches, dropping to 16 inches. This is a prime level for kayaking fun. Three laps later and the Flow is a keeper! This boat has the same great features as the Gnarvana, but in a more compact package. I was able to boof holes, catch every micro eddy and paddle multiple laps before wearing myself out. The flow surfs and carves the river currents just as I expected, with ease. It was easy to stay on line…or change my mind at the last minute to catch an eddy. I can’t wait for more rain so I can paddle the Flow again soon!
